The legendary figure of Italian football renewed his contract last week with his club for a further two years.
Gianluigi Buffon, 44, continues defending the Parma FC goal and isn’t even beginning to think about finishing, and, on the contrary, he has serious plans for the future.
But can Buffon still defend at 50?

Gianluigi Buffon recently renewed his contract with Serie B club Parma for another two years until 2024.
The world champion keeper himself stated the following:
“I want to keep going as long as I feel so good, how can I stop?
Football is a market and as long as I hit the level of the competition, I definitely want to keep going. The market decides how long it is right to continue a career. At the moment I think I can defend at this level until I’m 50,”
So, can Buffon still defend at 50?
Last month, Buffon celebrated his 500th goalless career game and has been in excellent form this season.
The veteran striker returned to Parma last summer. He initially made his senior debut in 1995 and six years later parted from Juventus.
Throughout his career, he has won many titles; these are the Italian Cup, the Italian Super Cup and UEFA Cup with Parma in 1999.
Later, in 2006, he won the UEFA Cup with Juventus and became world champion with the Italian national team.
However, despite all of his successes, he hasn’t been able to gain the coveted Champions League title, even when he tried his luck one season with Paris Saint-Germain.
It is not necessarily because of Buffon’s game that Parma’s performance can sometimes fluctuate in Serie B.
Further to this, he also can’t be blamed for Parma currently being the same distance from the rankings in the midfield as the playoff positions deciding the promotion.
The 44-year-old goalkeeper has already made his own place on the golden pages of Football’s history books.
Even if it may seem like he won’t ever be a Champions League winner, as long as he feels good and the game goes well, he will continue to protect the goal of his training team for as long as he will be able to.
